About the Artist
Stephen has painted and drawn for as long as he can remember. Throughout a career as a commercial artist and communications consultant he continued to document an inner dialogue in drawings and paintings.
His art reflects private realities and fictions giving image and voice to the incomprehensible and confusing: the tyranny of happenstance. Often, his paintings both literally and figuratively conceal multiple layers of an animated and evolving story. The top layer is simply the most recent freeze-frame of the story. Each underlying painting has informed the one that followed and imbued it with an intrinsic truth.
His works are in collections in Vancouver, London, Toronto, Ottawa, New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, San Diego and France.
